Barbara Johns, LCSW

Correctional Center Counseling

Barbara has been a social worker for over 46 years.  She became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in March of 1992 and later became certified as a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor. Barbara graduated from Louisiana Tech University in March of 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pre-Professional Social Welfare.  She worked for the state of Louisiana as a social worker until she earned her Master of Social Work degree from Grambling State University in 1989.  She then worked as a school social worker for Winn and Jackson Parish School Boards, working with children with special needs, until she retired in 2011.  After a 3-year retirement, she re-entered the workforce in 2014 and has worked in the mental health field since that time, including as a Clinical Manager/Supervisor for a privately owned mental health rehab company, and for three years as Director of Social Services for 2 inpatient and 2 outpatient geriatric psych programs in Ruston and Monroe.  Since January of 2020, Barbara has worked at Jackson Parish Correctional Center, providing mental health services to the noncitizen population. In addition to the above, Barbara was appointed by her local police jury and served on the Board of Directors for Jackson Parish Hospital for over 25 years. Currently, her primary past times include collecting jewelry, watching mystery television, and spending time with her family, which includes her husband (Donald) of 37 years, their four children and their children, her grandchildren, Lakynn, Dawson, and Anna.  She’s anxiously awaiting the arrival of number 4 in January 2024.
